Skinny Malinka’s First Race

By Gary Taylor

Skinny Malinka made his first appearance on Thursday in the 15:10 New Footy Season Specials At Rhino.Bet EBF Restricted Novice Stakes at Nottingham Racecourse.

The course at Colwick Park is certainly not an easy one to debut at.

It’s a left-handed galloping oval, approximately a mile and a half around. Except for slight undulations at the 2-furlong marker, it’s relatively flat – requiring good speed and stamina (which Skinny Malinka has in droves!).

A Hopeful Start and Promising Future for Skinny Malinka

This 3-year-old bay gelding didn’t place as highly as we would have liked, but we’ve got to remember this was his very first outing and ran very green.

Considering he was up against two horses rated 74 and 75, as well as a previous winner, Skinny Malinka held his own in the race! And the team at Blu Bloodstock were pleased with the debut overall.

Although he was slow into his stride and ridden 2f (furlongs) out, Skinny Malinka managed to stay in the middle of the pack, ahead of the rear quarter.

We’re confident that, as Skinny Malinka’s fitness, confidence, and experience grow, we can expect the horse to make it into the winner’s enclosure in the near future. And if there’s a horse you’d want racehorse shares in, it’s definitely this one!

Winning Genes

Skinny Malinka is the son of Hafaawa and the late Eqtidaar.

His dam is an Irish-bred bay filly by Badweia and Mukhadram. She raced at Kempton Park in 2018, but unfortunately, her racing career had to be cut short due to an injury.

Her sire, Mukhadram, is now retired but was a top-class 10-12f performer at the ages of 3 and 4. He had major wins in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes and York Stakes in 2013 and Eclipse Stakes in 2014.

Hafaawa’s half-sister, Nisreen (daughter of Badweia and Raven’s Pass), is a high-class chestnut filly who is group placed.

Skinny Malinka’s sire, Eqtidaar, son of Invincible Spirit, was a Group 1 Commonwealth Cup winner at 3 years old. He won on debut in a maiden race over 6 furlongs at Nottingham, back in August 2017.

After a short yet triumphant career, Eqtidaar retired from racing to become a breeding stallion. He sadly passed away in 2023 after his 4th year of standing at Stud.
